Another big speech for Obama
From the Times: “President-elect Barack Obama’s aides say he is considering making a major foreign policy speech from an Islamic capital during his first 100 days in office.” The reasons seem obvious: President-elect Obama likes giving speeches. President-elect Obama has already given several international speeches. President-elect Obama was elected, in part, to restore our relationship with the world. The question is, Which Islamic capital should he choose for his speech? All signs point to Cairo.

How about London?

Maybe his first speech should be from the WTC grounds.
I’m afraid this is the wrong approach. NONE of these people want to be friends with us. It’s against their religion.

Cairo would be good.

Drill,
The UK is only about 2.8% Muslim, whereas California is 3.4%
Maybe Obama speaks at USC?

He should start his speech by just throwing his hands in the air and delcaring “We surrender”. That’s the overall message anyway.

1. You lost. Deal with it.
2. Nothing has happened yet. Complain about it when something actually happens.
3. I read a comment somewhere about how gracious and patient everyone at wmb is being before the inaugeration.
I suppose the only thing that would make the posters at wmb display themselves as more gracious and patient would be if Obama announced he would come out as gay simultaneously perform an abortion at the inaugeration.
See #1.

6. I accept that he was legally elected and I will respect his position as President of the United States, but my opinion of his policies have not changed. He will either displease me or disappoint those who elected him.

My guess is both.

Mecca would seem to be more symbolic, though its not the capitol of any one nation.
For Chas #2:
Not true.

BuddyGlass:
Many Americans of various faiths have died for their country. Each one should be honored as such. However, A Muslim who is friendly with kafirs is not a good Muslim.
Sura 3:14 O ye who have believed! Form not intimacies among others than yourselves. Etc.
Sura 4:91: They desire that you should be infidels as they are infidels, and that ye should be alike. Take therefore none of them for friends, till they have fled their homes for the cause of God. If they turn back, then seize them , and slay them wherever ye find them; but take none of them for friends or helpers.
4:102 Verily, the infidels are your undoubted enemies!
Sura 9:30 “The Jews say Ezra is the son of God”; and the Christians say “The Messiah is a son of God”. Such the sayings in their mouths! They resemble the sayings of the infidels of old! Do battle with them!
9:70, O prophet! Contend with the infidels and the hypocrites, and be rigorous with them. …
9:123 Believers! Wage war against such of the infidels who are your neighbors, and let them find you rigorous; and know that God is with those who fear him.
Etc.

I’m a little reticent to tell Muslims who and who isn’t a good Muslim. I mean, I could lift passages out of context from the Old Testament that would paint Jews as bent on the destruction non-Jews. The fact remains that the majority of Muslims either don’t take those verses literally, or flat out reject them. So maybe the majority of Muslims aren’t good Muslims. We can just talk about “people who call themselves Muslims” then. Like this guy:

It’s a smart FP move to outreach to the majority of Muslims who are not terrorists and show them another side of America. The key to winning the war on terror is to make terrorism unacceptable globally. That is an ideological task. Military operations can only do so much. The battle must be won with hearts and minds.

LMBO! I see RPN is still keepin’ it real!

RPN: Wiki says California is only 1% Muslim. Your numbers for the U.K. match up with what I found online, though.

RPN: Yeah, but California is not under Sharia Law. Yet. London is better.

# 2, 5, 10 … wow! Exactly right. 1000% home run.
Who can argue with that?
For my two cents’ worth, I believe that if Obama chooses to make a major American policy speech on the grounds of a country that nationally worships a religion that commands its followers to kill us, it can only be seen as an act of appeasement.
Definition of appeasement: feeding the ‘gator so it eats you last.
