Gift certificates for abortion
It’s a Christmas present that is clinical, if not grotesque: a gift certificate to Planned Parenthood.
Indiana’s Planned Parenthood is offering gift certificates for sale this holiday for any “health care services,” including abortions.
“The tragedy is that almost 6,000 fewer children will be celebrating a first Christmas this year because they were aborted in Planned Parenthood’s Indiana clinics,” said Mike Fichter, president and CEO of Indiana Right to Life.
The president of Indiana’s Planned Parenthood said the certificates are supposed to help families who are without health insurance this season – there are 800,000 without insurance in Indiana.
While the gift certificates could be used for abortions, a Planned Parenthood spokeswoman said she doubted anyone “would consider giving it for that purpose.”
Indiana’s health commissioner called the gift certificates a “really meaningful gift.”

800,000 people without health insurance? This could be a great gift for someone choosing between birth control pills and health care, or keeping a roof over their heads. Especially in these troubled economic times. I don’t know any Hoosiers though.

Does make you wanna drive right past the mall its big XmasXtravaganza and instead go donate at the nearest carenet pregnancy office so they can buy a 3D ultrasound. And while you’re there, drop off several newborn pampers, blankets and a crib or two.
A friend in Michigan told me she was without health insu her first semester of college in the 80s. She went to PPFA for a pap smear. All was not right. Early detection saved her.
I suspect all the free or reduced price paps and mammograms PPFA offers are subsidized by revenues from the deaths of tiny innocent children.

If PP is so good and wonderful why do you need a Gift Certificate. Shouldn’t they just be giving this stuff away?

Why wouldn’t they?

Kbells: I’m sure they are. And it’s a darn shame that “we”, unlike virtually every other industrialized country, aren’t.

It’s disgusting that “health care” lends any credibility to an abortion mill. And it’s disgusting that PP gets any taxpayer money for any purpose at all.
I say this as someone who has taken some homeless women into my home and helped them get on their feet. I’m not heartless toward hurting women. I’m angry at the abortion industry that exploits them.

About 3-5 percent of what PP does is related to abortion. The remaining 95 – 97 percent of their work is devoted to pre-natal care, mamograms, reproductive health (pap smears etc) contraception, etc. So easy to see why you lot will get up into a froth about this …
And gee golly Mom, aren’t you a saint.
By the way KBells, PP charges on a graded scale so if you have no income what they can provide is virtually free.

See KBells? Some of the babies they kill aren’t even worth a dime.

Perhaps someone will give me a gift certificate for a colonoscopy or a filling for decaying tooth? That would be a wonderful Christmas gift!!!
I know, how about a gift certificate for a nose job or face lift?
Sounds like this Indiana facility is getting desperate to generate revenue. Perhaps business is a bit slow lately? I’m so sorry

Abominable. Straight from Hell.
Hopefully no one will buy these “gift” certificates.

You hope nobody will buy a gift certificate so that someone else will not get needed a mammogram, a pap smear or other needed ob-gyn procedures??

Planned Parenthood isn’t the only place where you can get free or low cost tests.

If PP practically gives away their health services to people who can’t afford them, then these gift certificates aren’t necessary for the poor. Therefore, I’m guessing that they’re marketed to guys with young girlfriends who won’t go to the family doctor for services because they don’t want their parents to know that they’re sexually active. Just another way to encourage young people to have sex and to undermine parental authority in the process–perfectly in keeping with their business model.

Your local health department also offers free/low-cost tests.

Those low-cost alternatives to PP probably wouldn’t look the other way when a 13 y/o indicates that she’s a victim of statutory rape, though…or coach her on what to say to keep her adult “boyfriend” out of trouble.

Of course not, Arcadia. I was referring to the concept of a pre-paid abortion gift card.

Good points by EYG and REE!
Just because someone is pro-life does not mean they wish to deny health care to a person in need. Such an assumption is flawed and diversionary.

CoyoteBlue:
Planned Parenthood does approx 25% of US abortions.
2006-2007 PP Abortions = 289,750
2006-2007 PP Prenatal Care = 11,058
Over a quarter of a million people are “missing” due to PP, while little more than 10,000 women got prenatal care from PP.
I wonder how well their adoption program will do?

CoyoteBlue is correct. About 3% of PP services is abortion related.
“The core of Planned Parenthood affiliate medical service is contraception and accompanying health care, education, and information. In 2007, we provided nearly 11 million medical services for more than three million people, and helped to prevent approximately 621,000 unintended pregnancies. Seventy-three percent of our clients have incomes at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty level. As of November 2008, our more than 880 clinics are operated by 99 affiliates, which have a presence in all 50 states and the District of Columbia (PPFA, 2008; PPFA, 2007; PPFA, internal documents).”

I never disputed the numbers quoted by CoyoteBlue, just posted some other PP numbers for consideration.
Here is some math from your numbers:
Abortion Procedures ::divided by::Total Unduplicated Clients
Expressed as 305,310/3,020,651 =0.101
Conclusion 10% of clients had abortions while under the care of PP.
Using PP math 3% of services is correct if you base the percentage of abortions on “Total Services”, but in human terms 10% of clients received abortions.

PP does important work. If my daughter were too afraid to come to me for “permission” to begin taking birth control, I would think her boyfriend very responsible and admirable for giving her a gift certificate to acquire it. Also note that PP helped avoid nearly twice as many abortions as they provided. An important mission deserving of funding.

and I also will point out your conclusion is not proved by your math… It requires more data.

rpn – I clearly thought the discussion centered around abortion, perhaps your shift of topic is for a reason.
Just wondering, the stats you cited are to be believed but when I use the same stats they are somehow invalid?
I have worked with health care stats for years now. The given numbers stand.
Report comment to moderator
According to RPN, 305,310 murders per year is perfectly acceptable as long as it is a small percentage of other important work, like encouraging kids to have sex, handing out contraception kits to minors and performing pregnancy tests for the unmarried.
If all of these people were married, they would not require a single service provided by unPlanned unParenthood.
