Blago: “What I’ve been up to”
The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza dug up a couple 2006 campaign ad gems from recently arrested Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Blagojevich opens the ad by saying,
I know sometimes you wonder, ‘What’s the governor been up to?’
Yep, and the FBI was wondering the same thing. He continues,
Over the years I’ve ruffled feathers, had some rocky moments, added a second child and learned how to get things done. I’m a little older and hopefully wiser.
Then watch these stunners from his 2006 challenger, Judy Baar Topinka. Blago beat her by 11 points.

I guess people ignored those ads because they didn’t like that his opponent was running a “negative campaign.”

It seems the abuse of public office is getting more brazen every year, what with presidential pardons and all. If Blago gets sent to the slammer, he’ll be out by the time the next administration (after Obama) rolls into town.

Having suffered thru the TV ads for both candidates, all I can say is I am glad I live on the west side of the Mississippi. That was the nastiest campaign I have ever witnessed. Neither candidate was worthy of the vote.

Looks like this caper will dash the Senatorial hopes of Je$$e Jack$on Jr. He was candidate #5 (client #9?) among those Blagojevich had hit up for “pay to play”.
Alas, who believes the Congressman from South Chi-town will come thru this with no other smell about him but that of a rose?
I say Michelle Obama would make a good Senatress and a reliable vote for her husband’s agenda.

Blagojevich is disgraceful.

What I am curious about is how the FBI got information on this corrupt politician. Well, they tapped his phones and bugged his office.
That’s fine with me, but I wonder why there is not more outrage from the left on eavesdropping on the private conversations of a sitting governor. Apparently liberals only object if you listen in on the conversations of radical Muslims.

From a Chicago television station web site
In Blagojevich’s case, Chief Judge James Holderman signed the intercept order which was sealed along with the governor’s arrest warrant and other paperwork filed on Sunday.
According to this record of U.S. Intercept orders, more than 2200 wiretap requests were made last year, but most by state authorities and most in drug cases with only a handful for corruption cases such as the governors.
Chicago judge Holderman also approved the installation of a bug inside the Blagojevich campaign headquarters which did require federal agents to actually get inside the office.
Law enforcement sources also say there was also a secret camera installed in or near the Blagojevich office so that authorities could determine who was actually doing the talking.
That was the case with Chicago’s most famous hidden law enforcement camera in 1989.
Federal agents had put a camera under a cushion inside counselor’s row restaurant near city hall that shot out of the sidewall and was aimed at booth one, where aldermen, city officials and outfit bosses discussed the days rackets.
Apparently liberals only object if you listen in on the conversations of radical Muslims.
There is always a difficult tension between the need to protect civil liberties and the need to have effective law enforcement.
That is why we have warrants and rules about collecting evidence, etc. Xion, I don’t see how your catch phrase about “liberals” is useful or helpful.
