Nonprofits ask for stimulus package
As need goes up, charitable giving may go down. That’s why Philanthropy. com reports that non-profit organizations want a slice of the stimulus package. America Forward, ServiceNation, and Voices for National Service drafted a letter telling Obama and Congressional leaders that nonprofits play a “vital role” in economic recovery, and deserve “significant strategic investments.”
They want Obama to expand programs like AmeriCorps and create similar programs to solve the problem of “debilitating job losses due to shrinking revenue.” The goal would be to create 125,000 new full-time and part-time jobs by this summer and 50,000 more by next year.
The Christian Science Monitor reports today on how faith-based organizations will fare under an Obama administration. Obama calls faith-based organizations “the foundation of a new project of American renewal,” but there are questions about whether he will require these organizations to change their hiring pratices to receive federal funds.

Hmm. I may just lose my lunch now (just as I had a sandwich ready!).
Any more groups want to start begging for pork and gov’t relief?

Where/when will it end? Where do I stand in line for my handout? Santa Clause missed bringing the millions I asked for. I guess I need to ask Uncle Sam.

Well, if we fix the economy, people will give again. I don’t think tax dollars should go for this.

Charity was once the province of the Christian Church. Now that the vast majority of churches have converted to state churches, it was only a matter of time before they would come begging for a handout. Hushmoney.org describes what’s happening perfectly:
“A more certain way to attack religion is by favor, by the comforts of life, by the hope of wealth; not by what reminds one of it, but by what makes one forget it; not by what makes one indignant, but by what makes men lukewarm, when other passions act on our souls, and those which religion inspires are silent. In the matter of changing religion, State favors are stronger than penalties.”
The Spirit of the Laws, Baron de Montesquieu (1748)

I’m against all of it in principle, but you’d better believe I will gladly accept any check I get in the mail. It’s money I should have kept in the first place.

Graceland, If you’re speaking from the point of taxpayer, I’m in complete agreement. But this thread is talking about non-profits taking favors from the state using your tax dollars. I bet you didn’t realize you’re tithing to the state, now!

Interesting. So Obama is going to retool faith based organizations so that they don’t fund groups that “include religious elements in their social-service programming”.
Ah, so it is OK to support faith-based organizations as long as there is nothing religious going on. I get it!

Where in the US Constitution does it talk about giving money to anyone?
Not right, not right, shame, shame, shame.
The government ought to butt out.
How will all this giving money out and printing more and more money NOT end up making inflation? As I understand it, inflation hurts most those who actually saved money for retirement. It helps most those who have borrowed money and can pay it back with cheaper money. Poiticians who cause inflation are evil.

CCC, how have the vast majority of churches become state churches? I think this thread is talking about American churches, and last I knew, no American churches were state churches–and certainly not the vast majority. (Or did a lot of big news happen while I slept last night?)

Cheryl, I’m glad you asked. My definition of a “state church” is a church that enters into a union with the civil government through the bonds of unholy incorporation. Technically, the only sovereign over the Church is Jesus Christ, but churches that incorporate give their allegiance to another master, the state. And you know what scripture says about serving two masters. That’s it in a nutshell. hushmoney.org opened my eyes. I hope it does the same for you.
