No one would have dared to make a decision for the judge I worked for. I might have anticipated a simple ruling and put a proposed order together, but I always asked "is this what you want to do?" when I handed it to him. The first openly evangelical president is all of a sudden "not a real Christian." Implied is the idea that if he had been a <i>real</i> Christian, things would have gone a lot better, because Christians always do things better. But it's just not so. Bush can be (and I believe he is) a sincere and faithful Christian and still be entirely incompetent in the job to which he was elevated. It sure look to me like the Christian Right that put Bush in office for 8 years is now backing away from him.
