Eyes to see
In late December, two women flew out of Austin, Texas, to begin a seven-week journey to some of the darkest corners of the Earth. Why? Their blog explains their quest in words and pictures:
Blanca Garcia and Liz Rivas believe the Lord has given each individual eyes to see and ears to hear that we might collectively act to relieve suffering, fight against injustice, and simply love both our neighbors in the U.S. and those living in other nations. However many Americans either cannot or will not visit places like Zimbabwe, Sudan, and Iraq to see and hear for themselves. These two women hope that by personally going to these countries and bringing back pictures and stories they might be used to bring the hurting and the needy from across the globe closer to those who can help meet those needs.
Yesterday, they flew from Delhi to Bangkok, and then traveled by car to Poipet, Cambodia, where they’ll meet with members of the Cambodian Hope Organisation. Blanca and Liz arrive back in Austin on Feb. 16. Follow their journey here.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Sounds like a good idea for getting a more generalized picture with some detail of the goings on. I was just reading VOM yesterday (it arrived in the mail via post office, by the way), they tend to focus on a couple of stories which helps but I can see how this trip will help to broaden the picture.

God protect and bless you both. Thank you for following where Jesus is leading you. I suspect we cannot even conceive of what God might do if we Christians really did love our neighbors. Maybe God is getting our attention with the challenges upon us. If it takes crisis to help us want to be better followers of Jesus Christ…bring it on.

It’s a little confusing… how are they financing this? What influence do they have or ability to set up and manage the organization that would be required to follow through? What is the reason they aren’t they working with established Christian ministries who are already in the area such as Voice of the Martyrs or World Vision? Just wondering.

Kwerna,
I got the impression they were self financed and working with on the ground ministries, they mention meeting with Christian organizations in the areas. Could be wrong, of course. Looks like they are trying to give the ministries a bigger platform.

Kwerna,
Yes, Mumsee is correct. We are meeting with Christian organizations in each country hoping to learn more about their work and bring awareness, funds, prayer, and potential workers to help each cause. We are self-financed although people did donate toward our journey into Zimbabwe to bring food and supplies to the people. Our church also supported our trip and gave us funds to distribute along the way. We are currently trying to raise funds for a heart surgery for a young boy named Ahmad as well. Please visit the blog to learn more.
Thanks for the comments and for reading,

Since Reuters, the Associated Press and the main stream media have been derelict in their duty of objective reporting around the world, perhaps we must rely more and more on personal reporting.
Big media, such as the BBC, have become a mouthpiece for rampant antisemitism, instigating pro-terrorist protests. Only the Internet exists to provide an alternative to the agenda based media.
“In the last 10 years, more than 5,000 Christians have been massacred in Egypt. Hundreds of businesses and homes first have been looted, then burned and destroyed. Churches have been burned and destroyed.” ACLJ
And yet the media is completely silent.
The United Nations has been overrun by Islamic states and has passed numerous resolutions targeting freedom of religion for Jews and Christians. Have you read about that in the newspaper?
Obama has promised to rely more on the anti-Israel U.N. and chose Palestinian TV for his first interview in office and called Abbas before calling any other foreign leader. Obviously nothing objective there.
And so, violence and oppression of Christians and Jews will continue to increase while the biased reporting will completely ignore it.

Liz and Blanca,
God bless and protect you on this journey. Those who despise the Gospel and hate Christ’s church will surely hate you, fear you, reject you.
A hedge of protection on all whom you minister to and with.

I hope the dictators and one-party states (which seem so prevalent throughout the nonChristian 3rd world) are not able to manipulate or otherwise use our two traveling friends.

Women should not be traveling alone to foreign countries. I hate the fact that churches promote women missionaries going to foreign nations without fathers and husbands. Women get crackpot ideas to go be missionaries in foreign nations, and it’s all in their heads. God has not called them.
