Lost in translation
While meeting with the Russians in Geneva, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton offered her Russian counterpart a goodwill gift designed to illustrate Vice President Joe Biden’s remark that the Obama administration wants to “reset” relations with Russia.
With a group of media on hand, Clinton handed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov a little green box decorated with a green bow and said, “We worked hard to get it right.” However, when Lavrov opened it, finding inside what was supposed to be a “reset button,” he smiled and replied, “You got it wrong.” Seems that the Russian word “peregruzka” on the label means “overloaded” or “overcharged.”
After laughing it off, the two symbolically pressed the button together, with Clinton “resetting” relations and, I guess, Lavrov “overcharging” us for something. Hope it doesn’t turn out to be a “costly” mistake.

Reminds me of Dan Quayle and “potatoe”. What was not well reported was that it was the teacher who gave him that spelling. I wonder if this was similar (perhaps not a Bush appointee, but someone in Obama’s camp that fears Hillary will get the nod in 2012).
