New York Times best-selling author
Kudos to our favorite Blogmama, Lynn Vincent, for the continued success of Same Kind of Different as Me, which she helped Ron Hall and Denver Moore write back in 2006. The book will be No. 12 on the March 22 New York Times Best Seller List for nonfiction paperbacks, its 52nd-consecutive week on the charts.
And Thomas Nelson has announced that a new book by Hall, Moore, and Vincent is in the works: What Difference Do It Make? Stories of Hope and Healing, with a scheduled release date of September 29.
Great work, Lynn!

My Periodic Book Club is reading this one next and my autographed copy is going on vacation with me–so I can mark it up for the discussion.
It’s wonderful. And I don’t say that very often . . .

Congrats to Lynn for ghostwriting a book that will soon no doubt pay movie rights royalties and have all sorts of tie-ins to hats, clothing, coozies and other accessories!! Ka-ching!!

Lynn, a heart-felt congratulations. That is quite the accomplishment.

I hope you haven’t got all that money spent.

Bravo Zulu shipmate. Keep on Keeping on Lynn.

Congrats to Lynn. It’s very cool. I will do my part to keep it on the list. I will purchase it for my wife. I’ll read it too.
And so you know Lynn, I am now going to add “exchanged e-mail with a best selling author” off of my “things to do before I die” list. Way cool.

I’ve bought a couple of copies myself and have recommended it many times. I know others who have bought it on that recommendation. Word of mouth is still the best advertisement. I can’t wait to read the next one.

She probably worked it on contract, Bob. Likely not seeing residuals.

Too bad.

I’ve been trying to get this book at the library for months and it is always out. I may have to break down and buy it.

WOW, LYNN! 52 weeks! CONGRATULATIONS!
But Michelle — you write in books? That ran chills up and down my spine. Do you dog-ear, too?

Thanks for all the nice comments, everyone! I must return to kudos to Mickey. In 2007, while he was still managing editor at Delta Sky (Delta Airlines’ in-flight magazine), Mickey read Same Kind of Different as Me.
He liked it enough to ask his editor if Delta Sky could excerpt it. The editor said yes, so they did excerpt it — in April 2006, I think. That’s what really broke the book out of Christian bookstores and to a mainstream audience.
Since then, the book has been a top seller on Amazon. That, combined with word of mouth and good Barnes and Noble sales, propelled the book to the NYT list.
Soooo….all this is really Mickey’s fault.
THANKS AGAIN, MICKEY!

Sorry for the typo — Delta Sky excerpted the book in April 2007, not 2006.

I only write faintly in pencil–Xs and checks, to mark what I have to pay attention to–with notes in the back. I wouldn’t dream of earmarking!
My copy was signed by the above poster last year at Mt. Hermon–I bought it especially for the occasion and she was very gracious.

Congratulations, Lynn. That’s quite an accomplishment!

Yes, congratulations, Lynn! You probably don’t remember, but back when the paperback came out, and I saw it prominently displayed at the Big City Barnes & Noble, I came on and told you that you were gonna be rich. As usual, I was right.

I loved that book! I gave it to several people as gifts last year as well. It’s a great book to give to Christians or non-Christians who are interested in the themes of working with the poor, the plight of African Americans in the South in the mid-20th century, etc.
It was very enlightening and had such a hopeful true story of reconciliation and redemption.

I loved the book, as well.
And this morning I saw it mentioned in the ECPA “Rush to Press” (an online newsletter for those in the publishing industry). It’s always cool to see reference there to someone I “know” and a book I’ve read.
