Seems I can’t go to the Flat Rock Playhouse anymore without seeing someone I know, and whose name I can’t recall. Really embarassing and frustrating.

“Ring of Fire” at the Playhouse was really good.

Lynn gets to co-author Sara’s book. I hope those of us who want them can pre-order autographed books. Bill O’Rilley autographs his. This might be a good marketing tool, because it would increase initial sales.

The drout is broken in Western NC. The ground is soaked and I hear Lake Hartwell is coming back. Last week it was still 4′ low, but coming back.

It’s been a long time since we heard from Mumsee, and longer for Cameron and TJ.

Birthday party seems under control, Kindergarten graduation is over, Hubby is on the mend, Baseball is done. I can see the light a the end of the tunnel.

That light is a train bringing a spoiled kid and a new puppy and probably All Stars where the other parents may not be as nice as the ones on our Bad News Bears team.

This is what I prayed for for seven years.

Woodworking legend and master woodworker, Sam Maloof dies at age 93.

Digital waterboarding. Some posts here are just like that: drip, drip, drip…

I’m off to the low country boil today. There will be craft demonstrations, fishing, canoing, hayrides, and live music all day. I’m doing a turning demonstration, of course. What fun!

– My mother’s cancer is growing again. (She had been in remission for a while.) We knew this would happen eventually, but of course, hoped for a little more time.

She is feeling very weak & tired. The oncologist gave her pills for the pain. Mom has chosen not to go through another round of chemo. Since Dad died almost 5 years ago (of cancer), she’s been tired of living. She’s only 72, but has already given up on life.

My prayer is that she will finally let herself trust & rest in Jesus, & accept the peace & comfort that He can give her.

The Honor Air flight of WW II veterans to the memorial in Washington will be featured on NBC Nightly news tonight. (6:30 EDT). But you can see a CBS clip (about 10 min.) at http://www.honorair.com . It’s worthwhile viewing for a memorial day weekend, very inspiring.
For those of you who have never seen the WW II memorial, this video also gives good shots of the memorial and a couple of nice ones of downtown Hendersonville. Jeff Miller started this. He owns a dry cleaning company locally. Our Lions club assisted in this, as did most other service clubs.

God answered your prayer

Karen, I am so sorry to hear about your mother. I am coming up on the first anniversary of my dad dying and I dreamed about him last night. We were sitting watching TV as we used to do before I got married. The dream moved on to him have throat cancer and me begging him to fight it this time. The dream ended with him holding my head on his shoulder and telling me no he wouldn’t fight it this time either…It brought me peace and I hope will bring you some as well.

Chas I am getting some of that rain as well. The center of my yard has a square that hasn’t been mowed yet.

Three girls spending the night at my house and one not going to sleep until 5:30 this morning…but it is what I prayed for for 5 years, so I am happy as well.

Or the garage works well, if empty enough–or carport? At this age, too, you might vote for just letting them get wet and dirty–just tell the parents to dress the boys in clothes and shoes they don’t care about. Worked for us and the party guests were so scandalized at the novelty, we could do nothing wrong.

Wet cake, though, can be a problem.

Studied Psalm 139 at Bible study on Tuesday, with my glorious old ladies and special surprise guest, my husband during his week of furlough.

He got to see me in extroverted teaching mode–which he’s never seen before.

He answered all sorts of odd ball questions from the regulars: “how did you meet her?” “What’s the deal with the universe not working if it was made up of one dime’s worth more of mass?” (I still can’t explain it succinctly. See Reasons.org). “Where does evil come from and how does it fit into these verses?”

The opening six verses–I just didn’t want to focus on the usual “fearfully and wonderfully made,” and we wallowed in the following:

1 O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
2 You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
3 You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.
5 You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.

Rich discussion, in particular about what it means to be completely known–aren’t we all searching for a “soul mate,” who loves us despite all we do, who knows us perfectly and loves us all the same, who understands our weakness, rejoices in our strengths and isn’t surprised by anything we do–good or bad?

Great news–Jesus loves us just that way!

My husband could explain “the multi-dimentiality of God,” and I got blown away by the second half of 3–that when God looks at me, he seems me in my entirety–from the person he knit together in my mother’s womb, to the woman who eventually will join him in heaven. When I make stupid error, or say something brilliant–he sees me within the context of my entire life. Better than I, God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit knows where that hurt word originated in my past; knows what I read that gave me insight; knows why I have a hard time with forgiving. Wow. Blown away.

And those were just six verses!

Kim, that plan B won’t work. The house is already a mess from being neglected for the party planning, baseball, graduation and sick hubby. I don’t care about the kids, it’s the other moms seeing my messy house that’s the problem. The garage and carport are in worse shape from Daddy being sick. We do have the pavilion so if it’s not too windy we should okay.

The weekend.

My 10th birthday party was held in our garage. Best time ever, bobbing for apples and my dad and uncle pretending to be “ghosts” in the backyard (it was around halloween time).

Late night at work last night, didn’t leave until after 9 p.m. with so much copy to read for the long weekend.

Earlier in the week we all had a good laugh over news release sent in about a memorial day service. Instead of 21 gun salute, the release said the observance would feature a “firing squad.” Fortunately, our editor caught it before it was published.

My MD’s 25-year-old son was killed last week in a motorcycle accident.

I’m so sorry about the news of your mom, Karen. I lost my dad to cancer many years ago. It’s so, so hard to go through. My prayers are with you. May you know God’s comfort and strength in a special way.

Sorry, too, to have read on one of the threads yesterday that Cheryl D’s s-i-l had taken another turn for the worse. Prayers for them as well.

Life is so hard sometimes, we are all so ultimately frail. Lord have mercy on us.

Michelle’s post about the Bible study. Sounds like it was a wonderful time. The other thing God sees when he looks at us, of course, is Jesus. Not our sin, but His righteousness. Isn’t that just the best news ever?

Karen, sorry to hear about your mom. Sorrier yet that she has not caught the joy of living for the Lord.

Speaking of mass: My grandson was with his mom and me shopping this last week. At one store I held a clearance top up to me and asked my daughter if she thought it would fit me. My grandson popped up and said, “Grandma, you are too fat for that.” My daughter told him that she hoped before he has girlfriends he will improve his way of talking. I added that “fat” better not be in his vocabulary when speaking to any girl. He, in all seriousness, looked at us and asked, “What am I supposed to say then? That she has too much mass for that shirt?” Needless to say, we thought that was a hoot. He is ten years old. We will have to remind him of this later.

Wonderful graduation and reception for my daughter’s Master Degree.

I probably gained 5 pounds.

Wonderful trip to TN and back.

Our other two grandsons, daughter and her husband here for the weekend.

Cold. In the forties right now.

Designer Girl has been laid off several times now. Laid off on Monday for good, but back finishing clients and trying to make an agreement for future relationship with her company. Prayers would be appreciated. She is also working on coming up with a good name for her own business. Lots to decide and a new challenge for her family.

She has kept things in perspective and knows the Lord is in all of this.

Made it through another week of waterboarding… ummm, I am torture… ummm, I mean totally acceptable method for getting me to work longer hours that a normal person should have to work.

Scott, I could do an 8.5 mile run if I paced myself well enough. I’m thinking a week would be enough time.

Karen, I too am sorry. Losing a mother is hard, and losing someone through cancer is hard.

OK, back to rants and raves . . .

My sis-in-law’s turn for the worse.

I made tentative plans to go just for a drop-by visit Tuesday. Going before this didn’t really make sense–they didn’t need me to come and help, since her parents have been there for three weeks or so for that reason, and going “to say goodbye” wouldn’t work, since she wasn’t acknowledging she was dying and I only saw her in February. Anyway, now that everyone knows she doesn’t have much time left, it’s OK to go to hug everybody. I’ll go unless they tell me not to (or she doesn’t last that long), but for now they’ve said Tuesday will probably be good.

I have a blue jay nest in my front yard, and the babies seem to have hatched. (Unfortunately the nest is on the other side of a branch, so I may or may not be able to see the youngsters when they get big. But I can watch the parents come and go from this window.)

I may also have another rabbit nest in my backyard. So far Misten knows to leave them alone–she’ll investigate when she first finds one, and I let her sniff for a few seconds and then tell her “no,” and she leaves it alone after that.

After two nights way short of sleep because my dog’s guard-dog radar was somehow set too high (having one’s dog barking and running down the hall tends to wake a gal up, and eight or ten times in one night adds up a bit), I shut her in my room last night, she only did one tiny little woof and I told her to be quiet, and I finally slept well.

It has been three years since she last did that nighttime nonsense, so we should be good to go for a while now. And yesterday I resisted my urge to write an ad “free to good home, or any kind of home, just take her,” so I still have a dog.

I deleted another debt from my list of bills I pay online through my bank. I have one more department store bill to pay off and then I will only owe my mortgage, my student loan, my truck payment, waterbill, electricity bill, insurance, phone bill, and garbage pick-up bill. Whooo Hoooo

A lot of people must have thought it would. Only a few people showed up. I have lots of left overs. Any one need a cupcake or a goody bag.

The few kids there had fun anyway. The puppy was a hit and she had fun too. She really seems to like kids.

:nutral: I had to install a new mailbox/paperbox and post. It was quite a project. The posthole, as always, was the biggest challenge. There is always a rock in the way. I’m not quite finished yet, but when my wife comes home from the Garden Jubilee downtown, I will get her to hold the level for me so I can get it right when I fill in around the post. And help me align the mailbox. But the “neutral” is because it wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected it to be.

Republican talk radio host Mark Levin this past Thursday:

CALLER: I just wanna say, Obama is a lot smarter than you folks give him credit for. You guys were on a roll, I have to admit, with all those tea parties. Everything was rolling along, the Republicans were gaining momentum. And he managed to change your entire conversational focus. And you let those three hundred thousand people —

LEVIN: My God. He’s so smart. His own party voted against him on Guantanamo Bay. How stupid was that, Cindy? His own party refused to fund the closing of Guantanamo Bay.

CALLER. Yeah but you know he can just move those people over here anyway. He’s already doing it with the one guy.

You are either superhuman or I remember wrongly. I thought the ‘ stood for minutes and ” for seconds, meaning you ran 8.5 miles in just over 1 minute.

Heard on the radio that Missouri has the lowest gasoline prices at $2.19/gal. In my town it is $2.20, which means I am paying the second lowest price in the country.

Started my summer job today as a tour guide at Mark Twain Cave. If anyone is traveling to Hannibal, MO this summer and goes to the cave, ask for me and perhaps I’ll be your guide!

Oh wow, I loved Tom Sawyer when I was a kid, read the book, saw the movie — was fascinated with the cave scenes. Never been to Hannibal, but the mere mention of it brings back all those fond kid-memories.

I understand TRS – conservative Christians can use vulgar and sexually denigrating language because other people do it. And I agree – there is nothing special about being a Christian.

Karen O (57) makes a good point worth remembering (not all conservatives or Republicans are Christians).

I do follow politics somewhat, especially during national elections which I’ve always thought of as something akin to a national sporting event (but with much more serious consequences, of course).

But otherwise I don’t really keep up with the day-to-day charges and counter-charges flying about, all the power struggles and scandals. Please. Things are said all the time that I never hear or would even care about. There are certainly things said that I would never approve of being said, even by politicians or commentators with whom I might normally share positions.

I truly have absolutely no idea what Anlir is referring to with regard to whatever was said about Nancy Pelosi. I’m completely in the dark and don’t mind staying there about it, to be honest. I don’t really care what was said, I don’t have the deep desire to google and try to find out all about it. I’m sure horrible things are said all the time about politicians on both sides.

Most of us here don’t obsessively read or listen to the tiresome political yammering that’s always going on in the political media. I would never automatically “defend” just anything said by a conservative. Give us a little bit of credit here.

The Lord’s Day.

Good sermon this morning on the law of God from Ps. 119. God’s Word calls us to (a) believe and (b) obey. It tells us what we are to believe and how we are to live. How blessed we are in our country that we have both the freedom and the means to own and read the Bible. But how we can take that blessing for granted.

I do not know if cats have lips, but they must if Karen O’s daughter put lipstick on their kitty. I think dogs have thin little lips. I have tried to put hats on my dogs in the past, but they do not like that very much.

I have no idea what the Pelosi thing is about either. I do know, however, that Christians, Agnostics and Atheists all say things that I don’t agree with or approve of at some time. Wouldn’t you all agree?

I did do the cave tour in Hannibal and enjoyed it, as I did the street of store fronts from the time of Tom Sawyer and Becky. There was a mansion also which had been moved from the lot next door so it could be the highest in town. I think that moved it up about 5 feet higher. Amazing what some people will do. It was a nice tour. I was there almost 37 years ago.

I’m sure whatever was said about Pelosi was just awful, and despite our huge differendes with the woman, pretty much none of us here would condone such things. At the same time, whatever was said about Pelosi probably pales in comparison to what has been said daily about people like Dobson, Robertson, Falwell and others… Just visit Daily Kos for a daily dose of…. vulgarity and crassness that isn’t exceeded much of anywhere else…

Gorgeous day here today: blue skies, sunshine, cool breeze.

The sound of the harbor sea lions barking at night.

The sound of the whistle blowing as the latest cruise ship sails out of port.

Hmm. Kinda sorry now I volunteered to work Monday’s holiday shift.

My check with the holiday overtime on it 2 weeks from now will certainly help in a day and age of furloughs.
