Palin calls Letterman “pathetic”
David Letterman and Sarah Palin are in conflict, along with all the pundits now taking sides over Letterman’s jokes about Palin on his Monday night show.
In his Top Ten highlights of Sarah Palin’s visit to New York, Letterman referred to Palin’s wardrobe dramas, joking that she went to Bloomingdale’s to buy makeup to update her “slutty flight attendant look.” He also joked, referring to her visit to Yankee Stadium, that Alex Rodriguez got Palin’s daughter pregnant. While the joke obliquely refers to Bristol Palin, Jim Treacher said that the joke is especially offensive because Willow — Palin’s 14-year-old daughter — went to the game, not Bristol: “A national talk show host made a joke about the girl being sexually assaulted by one of the players.”
Palin responded on John Ziegler’s show by calling Letterman “pretty pathetic,” saying it was “very sad not to recognize, here again, truth and what this trip is all about. … Just doing some good things here for some good people in New York.”

What is pathetic is that so many Americans with no taste, grace or genuine humor have make people like Letterman enormously wealthy and famous.

Palin was simply stating the obvious.
Does Letterman’s egregious and extreme judgmentalism mean that he thinks he is super righteous to moral perfection and that his life is a model for all to emulate and admire?

Sounds to me like like Letterman went over the line. But that does not make Palin qualified to run the country.
I thought it was fascinating that she was not even featured at the big R fundraiser this week. The powers in the party know that she is poison. And I think they’re right.
She dove or got dropped in way over her head, sank into the muck at the bottom and is unlikely to free herself.
Report comment to moderator
Stupidity on another’s part never makes anyone qualified. What’s that got to do with anything?
Oh. Excepting the naivety of the left to foist a superleftist unqualified candidate into the presidency of course…
Obama is an unmitigated disaster on our economy…
But our liberals have the audacity to call Palin unqualified and covered in muck, after they buried her in it.

Governor Palin’s executive experience and her qualifications to run the country far surpassed any experience or qualifications on the part of Barack Hussein Obama. But he was the one elected and we must deal gracefully with his clear inexperience and lack of solid qualifications.
I admit that comparing Palin’s executive experience to that of Obama is not a huge argument in favor of Palin.

It is a sad reflection on Letterman.

One thing you can count on from Republicans: they can’t take a joke.
But the really funny things is, the Republicans used to complain about “PC”. Now they’ve embraced it and they’re trying to force it on everyone. And don’t get me started on the “CC-PC” movement, which is even more oppressive.

Letterman’s humor might be crass, but what people will take away from this news cycle is another example of Sarah Palin’s media illiteracy. When will the Palin’s learn to keep their mouths shut? Probably when they get sick of being in the lime-light, just after an embarrassing run at the GOP nomination in 2011.

Letterman made his fame on being a jerk. He is continuing that trend. Now he has become a sick jerk.

Agreed with Mynock. She should not comment. It makes her seem above the fray and statesmanlike in an Eisenhower sort of way.

If y’all think Letterman’s humor is crass, you clearly don’t see much stand up comedy. He’s as tame as a kitten by comparison. Shoot – Lisa Lampanelli could peel bark off a tree with her words.

There were some goodies in the Top 10 List. I liked #5 – “keyed Tina Fey’s car”!
I’ll admit the “slutty flight attendant look” was a cheap shot though. If I was a slutty flight attendant, I’d be livid at the comparison!

The Palins should’ve declined comment except maybe to say, “Consider the source”.

Anlir, whoever Lisa Lampanelli is, she doesn’t have a network show.
But Palin still should have kept her mouth shut.

Sawgunner & Deet,
You may be right and I’m not arguing with your comments. However, I have a question based on a presumption.
Why does it seem more rare for people to criticize leading Demcorats who defend themselves publicly against insults they find offensive? I recall the Clintons commenting strongly (and often justly) when their daughter was criticized. I have heard Obama make specific responses to things he didn’t like that were said by Limbaugh and Hanity. I rarely hear anyone suggesting that leading Democrats should “stay above the fray” or be “statesmanship” when they are lashing back at conservative pundits? It’s just my impression and a sincere question.

What part of it was crass, the “slutty” part or the “flight attendant” part?
Speaking for myself, I’d say that Letterman calling her “slutty” increases my positive feelings toward her! Anyone who has sex with lots of people is a MacArthur genius, as far as I am concerned, responsible for enormous increases in human happiness. Sluts should be celebrated not scorned.
On the other hand, I don’t particularly appreciate the flight attendants whom I regularly encounter in my section of the cabin. Sarah’s pretty hand gestures only remind me of those callow, you’re-on-your-own pantomimes at the outset of every trip. Her constant asides and cliquey winks to to those who know remind me that she’ll never drag her cart over to my row until it’s over. And afterwards, when you really want the whole thing to be over, and the people in front to just hurry, she has the gall to startle you with a “Goodbye” as if there really would be a next time if you had a choice about it.

Threads like this always remind me of that wimp Obama whining, “lay off my wife”. If he had to endure half of what Palin’s had to deal with, he would have had an amusing meltdown by now. What a sissy.

All the cheap shots given Gov. Palin only strengthen her standing in the political arena – She has more influence today than she did months ago. When she appeared on Hannity’s program (FOX) Monday night she was outstanding.
The liberals are losing ground, all the jokester’s look childish as they scramble for material. Obama’s material is even worse, at the rate he’s spending money he won’t have any material to work with.

JM: I really don’t have an answer to your question, for I simply have not noticed R’s being more or less reticent to respond or being criticized or not for their response.
I will, however, observe that the day Ms. Palin showed up to accept the nomination as a “Christian values” candidate with an unmarried daughter/mother and obviously uncomfortable swain in tow, much of the script was pretty well written. And the daughter herself didn’t help much by stating the obvious while giving interviews after the campaign.
Other candidates, less associated with the “values” movement, may escape derision, but when the preacher stumbles, the preached-to derive some joy and are likely to express it. And a whole lot of Republicans and Republican associated evangelicals have had a very bad couple of years…

Scroop is much funnier than Letterman.
Calling Sarah Palin slutty was an ugly comment that deserved icy aloofness, but when Letterman started talking about her daughter getting knocked up by ARod he crossed a serious line and any parent is morally obligated to call him out on it, political consequences or not.

Letterman’s comment about Governor Palin’s daughter getting “knocked up” by A-Rod was a blatant suggestion of her daughter being raped in public. There is NO WAY that David Letterman should still be on the air in any way. His own bosses should sack him post haste, not necessarily any government act.
Public comments about the abject rape of the daughter of a public official are comparable to suggesting the assassination of a President. Unacceptable by ANY standard of public decency.

I watch CNN nearly every day. It’s been nearly a year now and they talk about Palin almost every night, usually with a mocking superior tone. It is a near constant refrain from the left.
This has nothing to do with her competence. A self made woman who doesn’t support abortion is simply intolerable to feminist baby killers. Letterman is a funny guy as are many left-wing comedians, but the politics of the left reveals a putrid stench of hate.

JOEL: There is NO WAY that David Letterman should still be on the air in any way.
SARAH: . . screw political correctness . .
I’m with Sarah on this one.

No doubt, Joel thinks that was a slutty thing for Sarah to say, but he doesn’t prance the stage in Franco Sarto red high heels and black leather jackets. He doesn’t appreciate how wet-look lipstick sticks to your critics after you screw political correctness.
Go girl. In your own words, screw anything you want. Just remember, when you’ve got words like yours, you don’t need to borrow Newt’s!
BTW, JOEL, rape is when you don’t want to get knocked up. Letterman naturally assumed that once you’ve had it once, you might might want it twice, and if you like Alaska hockey you’ll love NY baseball.
Sarah is lovin’ every minute. Will she or won’t she accept Letterman’s proposal to come on his show? She could screw political correctness on live TV. I’d really love to watch.

I think clowns like Letterman pick on Palin in hopes that the negative notariety galvanizes the conservative base behind her for 2012. They want her to run, because they think she’d be a pushover.
I think the vast majority (if not all) of the attacks against her and her family have been pitifully weak feeble, and I generally take her side there.
All that said, I myself do NOT want Gov. Palin to run, because she strikes me primarily as an American-exceptionalist, flag-waving pro-Israel war-monger.

Not Willow, RTP. Letterman was obviously talking about Bristol, the girl who was just on the cover of People Magazine. Enjoy your self-righteous anger without accusing your antagonists of raping minors, please.

I see, change the girl’s name and suddenly it’s a-okay.
