ABC and Obama
Republicans have raised a ruckus over the announcement recently that ABC News will be airing a prime-time show from the White House on Obama’s health care plan – which conservatives have said amounts to an “informerical” on behalf of the administration.
Some other tidbits about ABC have further raised conservative ire. According to research done by Conservatives for Patients’ Rights, ABC employees donated overwhelmingly to Obama’s campaign over McCain’s campaign – $160,000 to $5,000. However, as I looked at the list, I could only see one Obama donor who looks in any way related to political coverage – John Williams, who is listed as an ABC television director based in Alexandria, Va. The other hundred or so Obama donors from ABC are actors, some executives, and the like mostly based in Los Angeles. So, take it or leave it.
Then ABC refused to sell ad spots to the Republican National Committee, saying the network does not accept “advocacy advertising.”

Things become cliches for a reason. How about this one “Nothing new is true and nothing true is new”.

JOEL you’re a wizzard with those adjectives. Try and think up one for FOX too.
FOX knew about Ensign’s affair for at least a week, because the cuckold sent a letter to FOX complaining that the senator had ruined his family.
“I’m hoping you and Fox News can help,” Doug Hampton wrote to Megyn Kelly.
FOX must have thought of something. Perhaps a heads up.
The desperate hubby says Sen Tom Coburn has known at least since since Feb. 2008.

Or maybe ABC is running the show because it’s likely to have a high viewing audience. They are running a business, after all.
I also find it telling that World Mag’s astute journalists have again run a story that mentions “Conservatives for Patient’s Rights” without pointing to this group’s specious origins. Why doesn’t World Mag just admit to what it is: a Drudge Report for the religious right.

And then there’s Fox. All Obamination, All The Time.
It’s disgusting that World has the gall to bring this up.

#5 Scroop: If Sen Kerry had an affair and the cuckold wrote ABC, I would not be disappointed in the least if ABC didn’t run it as a news story. What was Sen Coburn to do? Alert the media? Tell the spouses? Encourage his colleague to come clean? (Maybe he did?)
#6 RSD: What’s specious about CPR’s origins?

So, where do the uber-informed on this blog go for objective news reporting? Or, is it just a matter of picking your favorite flavor?

Back to the topic of this thread: I usually watch ABC because I like Charlie better than Katie or Whinin’ Bryan (his voice sounds too whiny). But this over-doing of something is typical of modern mass media. Look at the Olympics or the Super Bowl, or even all the attention paid to presidential campaigns two years before the election. As RSD says, these guys are out to make a profit, so they have to do something for viewership to please the advertisers who pay the bills. I guess I’ll ignore the news for a few days, or read it online somewhere.

There is no such thing as objectivity in media. Media isn’t a monolithic entity, it is made up of individuals all of whom have an inherent bias one way or another; barring of course the possible existence of someone so apathetic they have no opinion whatsoever.
It’s time to rid society of this particular fiction which is just as ludicrous and non-existent as “judicial impartiality.”

#5, A letter from some “cuckold” accusing a public official of “ruining his family” does not constitute “knowing” that the public official is guilty. Such a letter may start a network on an investigation and for all I know, FOS’s investigation may have motivated the senator to confess publicly. But all journalists must confirm accusations before going public and so must fellow senators and all of us.
Now it is confirmed. I think it is tragic and said so earlier. But the media double-standard reamins egregious, in favor of Obama worship.

I don’t have cabel any longer, but throughout the time I viewed FOX News, I saw and heard just as many liberals as otherwise. I disagreed with then often. I am 54 years old and I have never seen that much balance on any of the alphabet networks or in the print media.

Fox had three or four specials in the last couple of years of the Bush administration that they heavily promoted with claims of “exclusive access”. They named their specials things like “Sprinting to the Finish”. I doubt that the ABC show will be half the love fest these fox infomercials where.
Of course conservatives didn’t say a word then . Now they’re outraged. Once again conservatives demonstrate they are unprincipled hypocrites. It happens every day.
Report comment to moderator
If it were a love fest about how the Obamas were living in the White House, no one would care. It’s not. This is about a major piece of legislation, and no reasonable person would not want to hear both sides. The left, as usual, is not reasonable. That happens every day.

NJLawyer: It hasn’t aired yet. You don’t know that it won’t air both sides. I’m betting it will. Want to take me up on that bet? Loser agrees to not post for one week.
You could at least have the courtesy to wait and see it before judging it.

I think you may find this video enjoyable and educational.
Heh heh. Favorite question: “When you look back over this time, is there one thing that you’re most proud of?”
Followed shortly by: “There is a smudge on your boot, Mr. President. Would you do me the honor of ordering me to shine it with my tongue?”
I’ll wait to see ABC’s coverage of Obama before I judge, but I will affirm this: I want no news organization beholden to or in awe of the president. I want a critical media (by critical I mean examining the administration’s claims in depth, not the knee-jerk dogmatic anti-whatever-Democrats-are-doing of Fox).
I was disappointed, for example, to see Dan Froomkin fired from the Washington Post. He was consistent and principled enough to criticize both Bush and Obama for the same things and from the same core values.
I hope ABC will run a fair and open piece on Obama’s plan, laying out all the details and including the best arguments of his strongest critics. If they do that, they have avoided sinking to the level of Fox “News”, and I see no problem with them doing a special on his proposal.
Report comment to moderator
LMAO ,Kwatson. If you knew anything about FOX news you would know that every broadcast is hyped as exclusive access.
They are planning a special on the fly that Obama killed and it will be exclusive access. Really, Kwatson, you are stretching things rather thin. There is a considerable difference between the happenings.

There is nothing wrong with a media that likes the president. I said prior to the election that part of me wanted Obama to win just so we can have a little peace and quiet and get back to be Americans again.
For eight years, the media overwhelmingly showed only the bad side of everything and sabotaged the war effort and mocked the President and reviled America through propaganda simply to cause a change of parties. Well they won and are basking in the glory of the slobbering love affair.
But at least we are seeing some pride in America and the presidency now. And we have some quiet, even though the ridicule of Republicans continues. CNN has some good stuff, but they can’t go an evening without mocking Palin or some Republican. MSNBC makes whole shows dedicated to Republican ridicule.
But we have some quiet now and for that I am glad.

RKG: What was Sen Coburn to do?
Good question. He needs to answer this question. Perhaps the right answer is, when Republicans do the very things they preach against, we should indulge them for the sake of their wonderful sermons. Sen. Coburn doesn’t want to talk about it. Neither do his colleagues.
The big question for me is, aren’t Republicans a bit self-conscious?
Report comment to moderator
Why should they be? Are Democrats self-conscious about the fact that they consider Ted Kennedy of Chappaquiddick fame, among other things, as their elder statesman? Are Democrats self-conscious about the fact that they defended and continue to defend Bill Clinton’s perversions and lies?

An unbiased report would not be coming from the domain of its proponent.
Oh bosh. Reporters interview powerful people at their offices all the time. Many reporters interviewed Bush at the White House, and every president before him, for that matter.
You’re just (as usual) being highly selective in your outrage. You are one of the most self-blinded partisans on this board.

“I doubt that the ABC show will be half the love fest these fox infomercials where.”
Do you remember the ABC Special hosted by Peter Jennings from 6:30 PM ’til 7:00 PM just before “Hillary Healthcare” was presented to the public? Well, ABC interviewed 4 couples. 3 were definitely for it. The 4th couple would have a lesser level of health care but were willing to forego their better health care plan so that “everyone” could have it. ABC didn’t give any opposing point of view.
I stopped believing anything TV news said after that. “They are liars to the people.”

I got called last night as part of a very interesting poll having to do with Obama’s healthcare plan. I responded that I have only heard bits and pieces of the plan and nothing concrete as of yet. The caller asked me if I knew the healthcare plan would cover this and that. I finally asked how long this was going to take; the caller said “about 15 minutes” and I hung up. Wonder if this is part of the ABC special plan?
