Gingrich group slips up on invites
Newt Gingrich’s political group has just withdrawn an invitation to a strip club owner for a private dinner with the former House speaker, saying the invite was a mistake, that the organizers had confused the Texas business’ name with a small business in Virginia.
That’s the second time this month that the group, American Solutions, has withdrawn a dinner invitation to an executive in the “adult entertainment industry.” A couple weeks ago it awarded “Entrepreneur of the Year” to the president of a porn studio. The president said in a statement she was “honored and more than a little surprised.”
As for the Texas strip club owner, she said she still wants to meet Gingrich:
“We admire Newt Gingrich’s positions on personal responsibility, self-reliance, and, especially, the need to keep the government out of our private lives,” she said. “We have a lot to talk about.”

Considering the source, this is a great example of eisegetical hermeneutics.

Newtie, Newtie, Newtie…

The owner is still a voter, and I do have something in common with her: she doesn’t like big government any more than I do.

Yes, NJL I’m with you as far as focussing on what we have in common rather than on our differences. Politics means you cant always select who’s in the foxhole beside you and as long as they’re shooting downrange and not at me and my voter preferences, they are okay.
I think often, however, these are intentional set ups. Do staffers vet every person who writes a check for a $2,000/plate dinner. A motivated group opposed to Newt or American Solutions could send the check and then arrange for the donor to be “outted” as they planned all along. Then the conservative can be denounced for hypocrisy, not upholding traditional conservative values, etc.
Am I saying this is dirty tricks? Nope. Could it be? Yep
I suspect that strippers and strip bar owners are inclined to oppose proLife politicians. ProLifers–where I’ve lived– are generally gonna be more in favor of other laws and regs to address personal conduct

I have often what kind of woman owns a strip club. Doesn’t she realize she is only encouraging the idea of women as objects of male pleasure only?

When a Republican sits with publicans and sinners, it’s an ambush. Democrats sit with publicans and sinners because they want to feel close to Jesus.

FRANK: While she’s called a “madam” in polite company, at bottom, she’s just a plain ol’ pimp.

Sawgunner,
Even just being pro-life–against abortion–should be enough to bring the opposition of those in the “sex trade.” Legal abortion is quite “necessary” for prostitution to thrive, since the occasional pregnancy is inevitable.

But I can see that a madame wouldn’t worry about the pro-life aspect so much. Afterall, our society allows abortion. The issue, for her, may be settled. For her business to thrive, she needs to keep government regulation out of her business. While I would find it difficult to vote for a pro-abortion Dem on a national level even if there were a few issues on which we agreed, she may be focusing on the first amendment issues and the big government issues. She wants to keep more of her profits.

#8 Cheryl D,
I suspect that the incidence of abortion (even abortion recidivism if that is tracked) is much higher among “dancers”. There were 2 girls killed near Ft Hood. They were teen runaways who were strip dancers lured to a remote area with a promise of dope from the murderer.
The kicker in that case was the murderer was a club employee/mgr. He had a distinctly muslim/Arab appearance and name. In other stories about strip joint-related crime, male Arabic names come up a lot.

That’s a jagged little barb, there.
I’d love to hear some discussion on this from the Right. Do you believe the government has a right to restrict adults’ access to pornography or prostitutes? If yes, then what makes you believe this government intervention into adults’ private lives is warranted, when you are so vocally against it in other areas?
