Family values at Princeton?
There may be hope yet. Students at Princeton University have formed an organization called The Anscombe Society, which, according to the mission statement on its website, is “dedicated to affirming the importance of the family, marriage, and a proper understanding for the role of sex and sexuality.”
Its goal is to foster an environment that values traditional marriage and a “chaste lifestyle.” Yes, you read that correctly. Students at a secular Ivy League university have formed, of their own free will, a group promoting chastity!
The Anscrombe Society offers support for students who share those values, as well as opportunities for the wider university community to engage in discussions with them. Just a few days ago, The Anscrombe Society hosted an event called “Ask Anscrombe Anything.” People were encouraged to attend no matter what their views, as the website made clear: “If you find some of our positions reprehensible, then come and challenge us.”
How refreshing that such a group exists in the first place, and seems willing and eager to engage in difficult discussions with those who disagree.
The group’s website also includes a link to the Love and Fidelity Network for students on other campuses interested in forming similar organizations.
Princeton is already a bright spot when it comes to offering students a change from the leftist ideologies that dominate so many of America’s institutions of higher education. In 2000, Professor Robert George founded (and still directs) the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions, renowned for its traditional curriculum.
And next month, Princeton will play host to the second annual intercollegiate conference on “Sexuality, Integrity and the University,” designed to educate students in arguments that uphold traditional views of marriage, sex, and family. Professor George will be a featured speaker.

According to the Anscombe’s website: Non-students/supporters: it has been in large part thanks to you that The Anscombe Society has been able to accomplish what it has. We greatly appreciate your support, both financially and morally.
NOM all over again, (at least, this group is linked to them). NOM, which will not present its financial documents, though it is required to do so by law.
The doublespeak about “Family, Love, Happy Babies and Kitties” fails over and over again, and yet the same people keep using it. Crazay!

If they are not dilligent, the will be infiltrated by ungodly people hell bent on destroying any good work that they might accomplish. Satan’s hords never quit trying.

I try to attend George’s James Madison lectures when my teaching schedule permits (I teach in the area). I disagree with his teachings on sexuality; however they do outstanding work on the study of America’s Founding, law, politics, and religion.
Whenever I’ve interacted with George, he’s always the epitome of politeness. He was nice enough to explain the difference between the “new” and “old” natural law theories where debate rages in natural law/philosophic circles. George and John Finnis are probably the leading defenders of the “new” natural law theory, that seeks to correct any problems with Aquinas’ original. Ed Feser is a notable “old” natural law defender — that is Aquinas theory, without the need for correction.

Meet them? Maybe. But referring to young ladies as “chicks” is so retrograde that they might wonder if you have one.

Thomas1, your are quite right. And as I read your comment I thought of the two cool East European Lotharios portrayed on SNL by Dan Akroyd and Steve Martin.
As retrograde as the term in fact is, there is at least one blog poster here who has access to his own personal chicks.

As a current Princeton student with several friends actively involved in the Anscombe Society, it is nice to see their efforts being recognized by World. But let me clarify to the author that Princeton has a very vibrant Christian community and that there is no reason to be surprised that a secular Ivy League university has students who are up to the task of promoting and defending traditional values.

MARCIA: [N]ext month, Princeton will play host to the second annual intercollegiate conference on “Sexuality, Integrity and the University,” designed to educate students in arguments that uphold traditional views of marriage, sex, and family.
FRANK: Which arguments will presumably not be based on the ultimate authority of Scripture.
Godless conservatism is no better than godless liberalism.

Frank,
I can attest that yes, Dr. George et al. go out of their way to base their arguments on natural law discovered by reason, totally unmoored from the Bible. They do this because they understand we live in a pluralistic society and certain arguments must be based on “universal” principles that transcend sectarianism and biblical revelation.
