Obama like H.W.?
President Obama is appearing in Texas today with our 41st president, George H.W. Bush for a forum at Texas A&M.
MSNBC’s First Read offers this thought:
Bush 41 was a system guy, whether it was working with Congress or simply playing the Washington game, he set up his White House to be cooperative, not combative. Obama has shown similar traits. On one hand, it’s a recipe for getting things down in Washington, on the other hand, it’s also way to look TOO Washington and end up being out of touch, the exact issues that made Bush 41 a one-term president.
At this early point in Obama’s presidency he’s been compared to a lot of different presidents. But this is at least food for thought.

Bush was a one term president cause he said “No new taxes”…and plainly lied.
Amazing how easily people listened back then. Well run campaign by Clinton.
This is why if there is a competent opponent in 4 years, Obama will be a one termer as well.

If Obama is looking to avoid seeming “out of touch” by speaking at colleges, he’s probably not likely to find major support here at TAMU (I’m a student). There is a large conservative base here and I’ve been hearing a lot of opposition to his visit. I would be very surprised if he scores any big points through this event.
On the flip side, it has been very embarrassing to hear the continued comments about the Young Conservatives of Texas’ actions last year (throwing eggs at posters of Obama, for example). I do hope my fellow conservatives behave respectfully this evening— exercising their 1st Amendment rights in an upright manner.

Huh? Are they talking about the Obama who said this? “I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess….”
He’s cooperative as long as the opposition shuts up. What he and B41 do have in common is an affinity for Democrats, a disrespect for conservatives, and a believe that government can solve all problems.

Former students of Texas A&M (me and others) are appalled that he is coming. Though President Bush has done much at A&M and is very friendly with the university, this seems to be a very odd choice. Texas A&M is very conservative and many military officers come from there. Let’s just say that Obama is not popular with the military or conservatives. Maybe President Bush didn’t think it through fully?

#41 wanted to be liked. He was a “go along to get along” sort. Americans only voted for him cuz they thought he would be Reagan’s 3rd term. The minute all that “kinder and gentler” stuff came out of his mouth I knew he was still after all those years little more than a NE RINO who strayed from his herd (all the way to Houston).
I cant help but suspect that had he truly finished off Saddam when he had the chance, that nation wouldnt be the disaster we now see it to be.

HW Bush was run out of office on a rail for telling one lie. Clinton’s lies got him impeached. But Obama lies so often and so well that he draws praise and accolades.

GHWB didn’t have to contend with a Congress as lopsided as this one which was why he was cooperative rather than combative. Moreover, he had decades of experience in government and knew how to work with people and when to compromise and when not to.

You turn everything into a lie by paraphrasing it. Paraphrase is a good thing. However, if you want to call something a lie, you must employ direct quotes. Honest people accept this obligation.
XION’s constant accusations of deception (”Obama lies every day!”) are desperate. XION accuses Obama of lying for saying that we’re in the worst recession since the Depression. XION is conducting a prosecution, not discussion and debate. His militant opposition is driven by a radical cloudsplitting vision.

#18 Scroop. I have provided innumerable links from reputable sources and documentation for every lie Obama has told. You don’t follow the links or verify that what I say is true. Instead, you do what most liberals do. Rather than refuting what I say, you attack me personally or nitpick the argument itself. Why not discuss the actual topic and provide actual evidence that contradicts what I say?

That’s a lie. I always check your links. The last time (about keeping your doctor and health insurance) you didn’t reply. Your problem is, you link to secondary source and you paraphrase paraphrases. You accuse Obama of lying without putting his words in quotes in your posts. It’s dishonest.

Well, I don’t know that Obama lies often and well (I doubt it), but he’s on the verge of a real whopper. During the campaign he often made the promise that if you make 250k or less you will not see your taxes increase by one dime. If he signs any of the current healthcare bills, that will be a direct violation of one of his most often repeated promises, since anyone who doesn’t purchase an insurance product WILL be penalized with a tax.

DJ #23 Doesn’t a cigarette tax affect people making less than $250K? What about Cap and Trade which taxes energy. Does anyone making less than $250K use energy or eat food delivered by energy consuming vehicles? Obama said the health care bill would not be available for illegals, but there was no enforcement. Wasn’t Joe Wilson’s assessment therefore correct? He says people who like their insurance can keep it. Well few people have control over their insurance. If there were a cheaper public option, wouldn’t employers immediately adopt it. So how can they keep it?
