Booked for a year
Tim Challies, one of the best Christian bloggers out there, has decided to take on a monumental task in the coming year: Read all of the non-fiction books on The New York Times bestseller list and blog about the lessons he discovers within the covers on culture and worldview. You can follow his progress at his new blog, 10 Million Words, hosted at the Gospel Coalition site. Tim, fortunately, will continue to blog at Challies.com as well.

Will he have time to sleep?
And if he does fall asleep, what will he dream?
(He should report which of the books kept putting him to sleep.)

I hope he still makes time to read the BIBLE.

All you need to know is in the Bible. That is why it has so much commentary and explication.

If he reads all of the historical biographies coming out in droves now, I wonder if he’ll discover that Western Civilization was oppressive and evil, except for a few great men who were gay.
My point is that modern historians seem to almost unanimously recast the past through the eyes of radical left-wing English professors. You don’t suppose they are writing these semi-historical diatribes do you?

Hardcover non-fiction he says. I just looked at the list of the top five, and they sound vaguely interesting–I’ve read previous books by the top three writers.
I’ve also read three of the top five books in trade paperback.
So, while perhaps some will be impressed–I’m not sure this is such a difficult feat. Though it will be interesting.
I’d take this job . . .

I haven’t read all those books and don’t plan to. I don’t know if the statement in comment #5 is actually based on factual information is just the usal conservative Christian hyperbole and whining.

#7 I’ve been making my way through a string of new biographies Random. I have a long commute and listen to them on audio book.
You don’t know this because instead of reading actual books you hang out here all day whining and bashing Christians. I still can’t fathom the motive to find a group of people and ridicule them day in and day out. Do you mock other groups too? Is there some dark pleasure in it? Just curious.

Do you find some bright pleasure in mocking liberals and atheists all day. I read quite a few books. For example, right now, I am reading two books about American history and Jefferson and Hamilton.
I am reading Christ Killers: The Jews and the Passion by Jeremy Cohen.
The Black Hole War: My Battle with Stephen Hawking to Make the World Safe for Quantum Mechanics by Leonard Susskind.
Puritans, Pilgrims, and Merchants: Founders of the Northeastern Colonies by Kieran Doherty.
The Road to Wellville by Coraghessan Boyle.
The Gate House by Nelson DeMille.
Boyle’s book deals is a well-researched and well-written novel Dr. John Harvey Kellogg. It has a personal connection: my paternal grandfather was an alternative health food quack who spent a year studying with Dr. Kellogg.
DeMille’s book is a well-researched and well-written novel about the Mafia and about the “Gold Coast” of Long Island, the second in a pair of books. It has a very depressing existential theme.
Xion, this is not meant disrespectfully (though I wonder if you can address a comment to me without being disrespectful),
but I have two questions for you:
1) What are the books you have read and are reading?
2) I ask again is your comment #5 based on any actual information besides just slamming people who don’t agree with you?
