Rants! & Raves! 11.14
Here it is, Rants! & Raves!, your weekly opportunity to sound off about the week past.
Remember the rules:
- A Rave! is something that happened during the past week that you’re pleased about and is signified by the word “Rave!” and/or an appropriately peppy emoticon (see Website Help to learn how to use emoticons, aka “smileys”).
- A Rant! is something that happened during the past week that you’re ticked off about and is signified by the word “Rant!” and/or an appropriately grumpy emoticon.
- You may Rant! about something a person said, did, or wrote, but you may not Rant! about generally disliking a person. IOW, no personal attacks allowed.
Have fun!

I do not have a nice fall/winter outfit or own any jeans and I do not have to shop. Life does not get much better than that.
I am not on Facebook.
I have seven wonderful children and the social worker did not bring me the three more she was expecting to bring.
One of my sons and one daughter in law will soon be deployed to separate foreign lands but they both know the Lord and He will use this time to help them become more like Him.
I get to do children’s church each week with some little ones who have not learned how to sit quietly in church. We have fun.
I get to do Bible club each week with twenty active busy children and my kids get to help and learn the value of service.
God is working in my life to make me more like Him.
The mice are back. I may take up accessories selling.

Mark – You need something to Rave about? Are you still breathing? Is the sun still in the sky (even if obscured by clouds)? Did Jesus die for you?
That’s just a start.
And I’ll lift up a prayer to God for the encouragement of your spirit.

Cheryl, I will continue to pray for your brother, this must be a very hard time in its own way. And the coming holidays don’t make it easier.
KBells, I’ve always found deadlines to be the best motivator. So often when I’m out interviewing someone, they’ll ask me when this will be in the paper. “Oh, tomorrow,” I say. They’re usually stunned.

Well Mumsee, now I feel superficial…

DonnaJ, when I worked for the TV Network I could crank out 20 to 25 promo scripts in a day, but no one is paying for anything now.

Kim,
That was certainly not my intention. Just that God has created us all differently and that is as it should be. People like me need people like you around so we can remember that clothes matter. They do. And without shoppers, the stores would not provide things so I could tell my hubby when he is coming to town, what we need. Thank you for your service, dear sister.

Kim, I was cleaning my house one day and decided that if I could come up with a use for pet hair I would be rich. Then one of my facebook friends came up with Pet wigs.
Report comment to moderator
You know for pets who don’t have time to do thier own hair.

This has been floating through my head all morning so I had to google it and share it with all of you…
I wish you enough sun
to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain
to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness
to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain
so that the smallest joys in life
appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain
to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss
to appreciate all you possess.
I wish you enough hellos
to get you through the final goodbye.
Report comment to moderator
So to everyone here, I wish you “enough”….

KBells, many years ago when I worked in a bank they kept it so cold I had to keep a sweater at my desk in the summer. The bank manager explained that the tellers were quite active and stay hot behind the teller line and I could always put on a sweater but there was a limit to what they could take off. At the time someone was trying to open a Topless Car Wash in a city near me, if it ever happens I was first to come up with the idea of Topless Tellers. Somehow it didn’t go over well.

Dangly earrings made out of mice teeth. That could work, Mumsee.
Most of us wouldn’t mind being in jeans every day — but working with the public often does entail shopping, like it or not (and most of us can get to liking it when the mood is right and the extra money’s available
)

KBells — so many journalists are now literally blogging for free, writers aren’t getting paid for their work in this age of the Internet.
And when it comes to deadlines, that’s why I think I always feel stumped at writing something larger on my own time (like a book). If there’s no outside deadline I have to meet, it’s really quite hard for me to dive in and “just do it,” as the slogan goes.
Report comment to moderator
Oh, I personally do better with internal deadlines. Tell me you want this book edited in five weeks and I’ll set my own deadline for four. If I happen to get sick or somehow miss my deadline (which really only happens if the author doesn’t respond to my questions fast enough), I still have an extra week. But more important, I don’t have the publisher breathing down my neck, and in fact I have a happy publisher when I turn it in, and I get paid faster. Plus, the publisher eventually learns I can be trusted with a deadline, so I don’t get “fake” deadlines, and then books with tight deadlines are given to me as the person who can meet them, so I get more work. (Although I will say that a 90,000-word book in two weeks is a little tighter than I particularly like! And when a critique of a 180-page dissertation got thrown into the same two-week period, my life turned a little too crazy. That was my life the last two weeks, but I met my deadlines!!)

Cheryl – You’re a smart lady.
I am always telling my daughters or my husband that it is best to do what needs to be done now rather than later, because one never knows what later will bring. Do they listen? Do they learn? No!
There have been many, many times when they have put something off & then had unexpected things come up. One example – Emily putting off taxes or some other thing with a deadline until the last day & then realizing an important paper was missing.
Or I end up having to do something hubby promised to do but put off & then had other things “come up” that had to be dealt with right away.

Pouring rain here, but warm – leftover Hurricane Ida.
9 bazillion catalogs in the mail for Christmas – some of which contain unique and beautiful items, fairly priced.

I have been reading over the comments on different blogs here attempting to acquaint myself with the “residents” ;o) It has been enlightening, although I find myself confused at times.
It is rain/snowing here today with an expected 2 inches this evening and an additional 7 inches tomorrow.
Hoping there isn’t much snow tomorrow so I can get myself to Hospice to volunteer
Safe and warm in the house with husband and daughter
The cherry tree on the front lawn was teepeed overnight…husband was “honored” we were chosen by the rascals….my OCD self was very annoyed!
Still haven’t figured out how you all do the happy and sad faces

Ok…I don’t know how that happy face made it on my comment…I am confused ;o)
Report comment to moderator
Jillane,
I hope I have not been adding to the confusion. Don’t mind about the mice. I have to keep them here to protect them from Donna’s toaster oven. Speaking of mice, put your little arrow thing that your mouse moves around on top of somebody else’s smiley face or frown or whatever and it shows you how. I am told.
Report comment to moderator
Mumsee, the mice are there for their protection?! Tell the truth now. Tell about your having a rat terrier, and pigs, and a lot of favorite recipes that seem to include rodents . . . This sweet, innocent protector-of-mice image really doesn’t work. Really now.

Are all the guys watching football while we’re in the kitchen? I did see Peter L. and Chas duck in to steal some food on WV . . .

I’m actually just guessing there’s a football game on, but the muffled yells and laughter in the blog’s background suggests something of the sort.

Annie may have an absess. Some people call them “wooves”. She will run fever and not feel well for a couple of days then it will explode and she will be fine. Just keep the dogs from licking her. This is what I went through with Callie and Amos a while back. The fever could have made her sick or she could have had a hairball. A little vaseline on her nose will help her pass the hairball rather than yakking.

Thanks Kim — she does seem better this morning, she was hungry and eager to eat (haven’t checked to see how much of her food she ate yet). She also was playing later last night.

Donna – Yeah, sometimes they just don’t feel well for a day or two, then bounce back. Kinda like us sometimes. This happened to Peanut not too long ago & had me worried until she started acting “herself” again.
Too bad they can’t tell us what hurts.
Report comment to moderator
Thanks Karen — she’s still not eating much, but … seems to act “ok.” It’s just that a few days ago she was jetting around here, tearing through the house like crazy.

Dogs are so easy compared to cats in some ways. I’m having trouble communicating with Border Kitty. We are simply not connecting sometimes.
The other day as I was getting ready to brush my teeth, up she jumps in front of me, springing from the floor & landing smack in the middle of the bathroom sink where she began lapping at the running water from the faucet.
“Oh, well, excuse me,” I said. “I’ll just stand here and wait until you’re finished before getting ready for work today.”

Cheryl D #50: At the time you asked, I was watching “West Side Story with my daughter. The night games did not interest me.

KBells, I wouldn’t want this to get around, but I can be controlled with cheese puffs too.

Donna – She’s training you well, I see. Good luck on your further training. Cats know we humans aren’t too bright, but they persevere to train us according to their wishes.
Just ask Peanut, who trained me to feed her in the middle of the night. And Angel reaps the reward of me already being trained.
(I have the food already in bowls to take out of the fridge when Peanut wakes me up. Yes, I know this is ridiculous, but I have to get up to go to the bathroom in the night anyway, so what the hay.)

I figured we were going to be one of the few families in our church that escaped the swine flu, but today my son is showing symptoms. Vaccine will not be made available till the Health Dept gets it, and then it’s rumored to take up to a month to take effect… so anyway, hopefully it won’t spread to the rest of us. Especially my autistic son, whenever he gets a fever he stops eating and drinking completely. I hate having to take him to the hospital for IVs – and I think they feel the same way about it!

May God touch your sick son & keep the rest of you healthy.

Karen O, I suppose the cat is training me well. As I type this, she’s curled atop the highest platform of her cat “tree” — a lofty position from which she can keep watch over her domain. It must make her feel rather important, having a house with a person and two dogs under her rule.
Contented, praying for your family, that the cases that do develop will be mild and the that it won’t affect more family members.

Well, Donna, if no one told you beforehand, cats used to be worshiped in Egypt, and they’ve never forgotten it!
The little blasphemers are sure that they are the “god” of their universe.
We love them anyway.
