Sanford charged with 37 ethics violations
After a three-month investigation by a state ethics commission, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has been charged with 37 ethics violations, most related to travel expenses. The civil charges carry a maximum fine of $74,000, and the state attorney general is deciding whether to press criminal charges. Meanwhile, state lawmakers, including Sanford’s fellow Republicans, continue to try to oust him from office.

I say we broker a deal. Charlie Rangel and Barnie Frank step down, Sanford steps down.

And here’s a link that fits: Vegetable Inspection (Really and truly!)

The step down list should be longer than that.

Let’s not try to change the focus – Sanford should resign regardless of what those others do.
The fact he will not does damage to what he stood for because it shows that he is a fraud. It’s one thing for somebody to make a mistake and repent, accept the consequences, etc. I’m sure Sanford thought Clinton should have been impeached – now he needs to back that up by stepping down over his own moral failure. Show some integrity – not continued failure. What good can he do now? He will accomplish nothing by staying.
Palin presents a good contrast here of somebody willing to step out of power to keep her state rolling.

Thanks Mark.

I expect this might be msnbc’s focus from 6-10pm with their investigative “reporters” insinuating connections that smear ALL other Republicans. I rarely watch the opposition anymore to see what they’re up to – predictable and BORing preaching to the mesmerized choir.
Sanford whould have resigned long ago: Double shame on him.

Metatonia post 4,
and barney Frank should step down why?
Because you dont like him?
And this would be a fair trade for Sanford how?
I think the evidence suggests that Sanford will have to be forced out. It will be amusing political theater, at least as amsuing at the Blago impeachment and conviction and probably more so given Sanford’s apparent professed stances.

SeanMT #8; The focus is more pronounced when Frank and Rangel are factored into the equation.
“Sanford should resign regardless of what those others do.”
I say, “Sanford should resign and those others should do so as well.”

Musing, if my not liking a politician was a valid ground for stepping down, 94 of the Senators would make the list and 432 of the Reps would be on the list as well.

The whole lot are ethically challenged; away with them all!

I think Sanford should step down, but he has every right to make them prove it. And if I were representing him, I might be telling him that. But stepping down is different than making them prove it. He should step down for the good of the state and to devote himself to his defense.

I do not think a Christian would want someone to continue in office no matter who they are. That is why some say when a man “cheats” on his wife he cannot be trusted with other things.
I think people are just saying that let’s not have a double standard–out with “bad” Republicans, especially if they are Christian.

Metatnia post 13,
then of course you should be able to provide a sound reason to insist on Barney Frank stepping down which is not based on your personal opinion.
And that would be?

His role in the housing fiasco. Nuff said. Perhaps no single Senator is more responsible than Frank.

Frank is not a Senator. Nuff said.

Correction: “No single congressman . . .”
Thank you Kwatson. Apart from your sarcastic repartee, my response was in the spirit of #13
