Well he had a great run and that airport is a huge hit, one of the nicest in the nation, probably even nicer than JFK in NYC but not nearly as big thanks to his constant steering of money to an airport named after him while alive. I guess it is more appropriate now……seriously I am trying to find nice things to say but this guy was the King of Pork in Congress and politically I am not sad to see him gone and his seat up for a real election bid.
I feel sorry for a family that has lost a husband, father, son and brother and will leave it at that.

I am sorry for his family and will pray that the Lord will comfort them in their hour of sorrow.

May the Lord comfort his family in this time of loss and grief.
IAF, I understand your feelings, but we, as Christians, really should set a better example. Though I did not agree with him, I will honor his service to this country, both at battle field and in public office. I would not be surprised to learn of some great things he did in congress that I would agree with.

“Man knows not his time.”

May God’s peace visit his family during their time of sorrow and grief.

Certainly a baronet and perhaps even a viscount or an earl. The Kings and Queens of pork are all senators. Queen Shelby’s reign shall have no end.

At a time when the Democratic party’s spokespersons are often accurately criticized for their lack of service in the armed forces, Murtha was a convenient rebuttal to that.
I dont know about his service record but I believe he retired from active USMC as LTC. You gotta be pretty sharp to achieve that.
He was thrust into notoriety when he expressed cynicism about Dick Cheney the hawkish former draft-evader who famously “had other priorities” during Viet Nam.
Folks forget that Murtha was almost caught up in the Abscam bribery entrapment scandals in the late 70s/early 80s

Thanks, SAWGUNNER, but his hardworking constituents have adequate memories.

Many thanks to his service to the nation! I really hope he accepted Jesus before he died. If he did, John Murtha is in Heaven…..if not, John Murtha is suffering in Hell.

Interesting how everyone forgets Murtha’s slandering of the Marines in 2006 claiming “they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.” Then too, everyone seems willing to overlook his shady dealings and ethical lapses in procuring ‘pork’ for his friends and relatives.

I think I recently watched a youtube video of him trying to pass something without the votes. The nays were way more than the yeas on the vote–but he said the yeas have it. He yelled at someone who protested. He wanted whatever it was to pass because it was his bill.
I feel bad for his family.
Hope he was a Christian and did some good during his lifetime.

Fascinating piece over at online.wsj.com about how Murtha’s death could affect any possible health care votes. The House bill passed by only a 220-215 margin, and recent retirements and Murtha’s death have put Pelosi’s majority in jeopardy, especially since Murtha’s…excuse me, the people’s seat could go GOP in a special election.

The House will not pass the Senate’s bill without a reconciliation sidecar.
Murtha’s death could have the effect of undermining the Republican prescription for preventable medical error.
POLITICO published an article that suggests Murtha was killed unnecessarily by the Bethesda Naval Hospital.
